About the courses

Various universities offer similar courses in the area in which I’m interested. This makes it difficult to rank these courses on my QTAC application. Do you have any suggestions?

You must decide this yourself. What will be helpful for you to make that decision is to find out as much information as possible about the various courses and universities where they’re offered. For instance, QUT’s Course and Careers Day is held on Sunday 29 July 2009 at the Kelvin Grove campus. Here, you’ll be able to talk to lecturers and specialist staff, listen to seminars and collect material about the QUT courses in which you are interested.

QUT produces three free booklets that will give you an insight into both the courses offered by this University and the environment in which they are taught.

Yes, you do.

Not at this time. During the course of your study you will be provided with information on how to nominate and apply for your Second Teaching Area.

There are fixed closing dates for you to submit documentation relating to additional entry requirements. Please note that applications received after the closing date can not be considered. Additional entry application closnig dates are shown in the information relating to the requirements for each course.

About the $33 service fee

Why do I have to pay a $33 service fee to apply for a QUT Creative Industries additional entry course?

The service fee indicates that you acknowledge there are additional requirements for that particular course, and that you are prepared to supply information/attend audition or interview as required. The fee also contributes to covering the additional costs associated with processing the large number of applications we receive for the additional entry courses each year.

What if I can’t afford the $33 service fee?

Have you considered applying for the Q-Step Program? All Q-Step eligible students have their service fee waived. Find out more about the Q-Step Program or email qstep@qut.edu.au

If I decide not to continue with my application, can I apply for a refund of any fees paid?

No, you cannot. The application fee is non-refundable.

About what happens after you apply

Will I be required to attend an audition or interview?

This will depend on the course you have chosen. Full details are provided under the additional entry requirements for each program. Please note that some courses allow you to audition or interview outside Brisbane, while others permit telephone or video/DVD submission. Find out more about additional entry requirements

I've applied online but I've got new contact details. Can I update my personal information?

You can simply go back to the onilne application and update your details.

Will my portfolio be returned to me?

That depends on the course you have applied for. Please check the individual FAQs for the course you are interested in to determine whether there are options for your portfolio to be returned or collected.

How do I make the most of my QTAC preferences?

In your QTAC application you can list up to six preferences for programs. These preferences are of your own choosing. You will be considered only for the courses you’ve listed.

When lodging your application, make sure:

  • your first and second preferences are the courses which you really want to study, even if you think you may not be offered a place.
  • your third and fourth preferences are courses that you could realistically gain entry into. These will provide you with further options: for instance,
    • provide another way to the career that you want
    • is your second choice of career
    • gives you the opportunity to upgrade your OP/rank
  • Your fifth and sixth preferences are courses that you are prepared to do if you miss out on all of your higher choices. Again, the course may be used to upgrade your OP/rank.

If I am unsuccessful in gaining entry to an additional entry course this year, how can I improve my audition/portfolio/interview for next year?

There are a number of ways that you can improve your skills in preparation for applying again next year.

You may wish to enrol in a course in a related area at QUT's Creative Industries Faculty or TAFE. Completion of a course/courses in your area of interest may improve your skills and/or give you more content for your portfolio, audition or interview.

If your choice is one of the performing arts courses, remain active by attending classes regularly. Again, you should gain as much as experience as possible. This might be, depending on the area in which you are interested, by reading widely, working on your writing skills, attending the theatre, galleries or films, volunteering, seeking work experience, upgrading your computer skills/experience or any other activities that will enhance your experience and contribute to your ability to answer the additional entry requirements next time.
